Congratulations to both of ya.

That's terrific ! Congratulations to your son and to both you and Mrs. CoLawman !

CoLawman 10-04-2006 21:17

Thank you all for the kind sentiments. I fear this announcement of mine resulted in a hijack of this thread. My son's accomplishments were aided by the book written by the Major.

My son's journey begins...... May his performance from this point on be deserving of the praise of those who now serve, and those who served before him, beneath the Green Beret. And one final word to Mr. Harsey before I end this hijack............Thanks for what you do for our boys!!!

I made the donation last week, and recieved the book today. It looks to be written very well, and organized nicely. I am sure it's going to be an incredible resource.

Thanks in advace Warrior-Mentor.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some reading to do. :lifter

Warrior-Mentor

Hello sir,
I have a real quick question then its back to lurking for me. My question is this if I buy GET SELECTED from clothing and sales will the donation still go to the right people? If not then I'll order it online.

Thanks sir,

Warrior-Mentor 10-28-2006 20:09

The cash raised from books sold through Clothing Sales is how we pay for the books shipped to SOWF in Tampa. 100% of books bought online goes directly to SOWF. Books bought through clothing sales fund the books we ship to SOWF. If no one bought books from Clothing Sales, we'd have to restructure the business model to pay for the books donated.

6 to 1, half dozen the other. What ever floats your boat.

msiewers 11-12-2006 23:34

I have read "Get Selected for SF" several times. It is well written and is a quick read. I can not say that the training workout will help you pass SFAS because I haven't been yet. I can say that the training schedule, although difficult, will help your physical fitness overall. Before reading this book I didn't know the first thing about proper ruck marching. I was killing myself after a few miles before reading the MAJ's book.

Warrior-Mentor 12-14-2006 18:41

Quick update...spoke with Dow at SOWF today...

WE'VE RAISED OVER $47,000.00!

...AND STILL CHIPPING...WORKING OUR WAY TO $50K...

Congratulations

Gypsy 12-14-2006 19:34

Well done, W-M!

BlackDragon0311 12-25-2006 17:35

read it

found the book online and ordered it almost immediatly, very very interesting and impressive, a definate hit in my view, the parts on mind set were what really interested and helped me, and the eating and PT tips were great also, bang up job!

What Credibility

I am going to order this book most tick. There is no better credibility than the folks on this site. The author and his co-author invented the course that prepares men to enter the SFAS. I was not always a fan of the 18X program but I am now convinced it is here to stay and therefore... the future of Special Forces. If this book can provide guidance to the young soldiers attempting the "pipeline" then it is a good thing. When you put the proceeds to such a good cause you have nothing but winners. Great work,

Z

Absolutely amazing. First, the great book and now a clothing line. I can't wait to order my wife one of those. Any future with undergarments. For instance, things that read "My husband is training for SF" across the front or even back for that matter.;)

x SF med 01-05-2007 10:16

the trainig camisole will probably sell well to the SF 'hangers - on'

Hey, Espi, look up the acronym "PERSEC" and consider whether you want your wife to wear an advertisement in public that you are away for an extended period at the SFQC.

The undergarments would be fine, but as an outer garment, I would rethink the concept. Look in the upper right hand corner of the page at the word that precedes "Professionals". Nothing wrong with being proud of what we do, or what you are trying to do. You just have to approach it from the proper perspective.

Just my .02, I think some of the designs are very nice and WM is working hard for the cause.

Warrior-Mentor 01-05-2007 18:48

It's the tongue in cheek implications of the cami that make me like it.

If you come home from a tough training ruck and momma's waiting wearing that...
it's gotta make you think "I need to walk a few more miles...what happens when I get home?!" :D

TR brings up a good point about wearing it in public though.

Still, better this [not mine]:

Would like to see a Cast or Tab ringer tee and sweat shirt Sir. But I like what you have done. Do the procceeds go to the SOWF also??? Great Job Sir

stakk4 01-07-2007 10:01

I'm sorry but the "Don't Mess With The Team Sergeant" shirt looks good til you see that hippy kid wearing it at the bottom of the page. I know it doesn't have the logo, but it still just ruins it for me.

Loki 01-12-2007 09:55

Just wanted to add that I saw this book on the shelf at my local clothing sales for those that don't have a way to buy it online. Not sure if the proceeds are affected, but if you are in a pinch I'd look there.

Get Selected

I purchased "Get Selected" for my son. He is planning on joining under what I believe is called the 18X contract. I handed it to him about two hours ago and, he has not come of his room to eat, watch TV or anything else in the last two hours. That alone speaks volumes to me. Thanks WM!:)

Great Book

Came to Savannah, GA in TDY status and went to Hunter Military Clothing, came across the book and didn't hesitate to spend the cash, I read the whole book and going over again in case I miss something, going back home today, starting on my training plan. Since there isn't anything pertaining about age limit to join SF:lifter , i'm not going to worry about it. Great job Maj. :lifter

Well, you might want to do some research here, because there is. There are also good reasons why there is an age limit, which have also been discussed.

Good luck.

PUMPED !!!!

Get Selected is a excellent book ! I freaking range walked like my hair was on fire to get the last copy lol. I have been incorporating a lot of the PT in the book into my training. I wake up every morning amped to do PT till I vomit, so i can get right for SFAS. You guys are my hero's and I cant wait to get back to bragg so i can show em what I got. :lifter

AusDigger 02-19-2007 17:16

Get Selected is an awesome book. I think if the Aus Army did something similar for the SFDRS applicants it would help them a lot ( I know I would have liked to have something like get selected to help get me ready).

For anyone out there who wants an even harder training program (fitness wise) try the SASR 13 week training program. Its designed for people going for the Cadre course (where the SFAS got some of its nasty exersizes). Mind you, you will lose a lot of fitness when you go through basic etc. but at least you know you can do it, thus you will be able to replicate in the future.

For anyone going for the SFAS here are some tips from the SASR cadre course (I don't know this from personal experience I just ask a lot of questions of SF members that I know):

1. be able to pack march long distances (at a consistent pace) and be able to maintain composure at the end i.e. its no good if you just fall in a heap, because on ops that could never happen
2. get used to the idea of sickners i.e. you will finish something that is totally exhausting, thinking thats it for the day, and then be asked to do something more like a 5km time trial, or be told to go back to where you have come from (which might be 40kms away)
3. Develop an uncomplaining attitude i.e. if things aren't going your way, don't get pissed off or whinge about it (that will get you a cross against your name), just take a step back for a sec and think "ok, how can i make the best of this", or "oh well I just have to battle through this"

Anyway, maybe this helps, maybe it doesn't.

Didn't know it was called sickners...Great little post, AusDigger.

Prepping for Selection?

Read this over and over, guys
... This little advice and insight above is wonderful for prepping for selection - But, not only that - this is simply great preparation for life.

My son related to me that once he understood this physical "mind trial" experience it helped him to get over the hump and endure - It's a mental thing. He said many guys were voluntarily withdrawing in SOPC because their mindset was on the rest and then when the reward of rest and the anticipation of the pain coming to an end - didn't happen - Hey, the goal-post moved - and the rest was delayed or denied altogether - Guys were quitting. Not fair some might say - Hey, life ain't fair....War ain't fair. This isn't the high school football team - You're preparing to be the best warrior on planet earth.

It is over only when you are actually moving onto the next thing - it's freak'n never over.

My son said to me, "Dad, the question is - 'Am I going to quit?' - it's a mental thing. It's in your head...Once I adjusted my head - things got better - I was fine."

Three Soldier Dad...Chuck

.

AusDigger 06-19-2007 23:46

Its all about:

1. expecting selection to be the hardest thing you will ever do. A lot of guys pull off selection courses because they are surprised by how hard it is.

2. Stop thinking about how far you have to go, or how many more you have to do. The more you fight something, the harder it gets and the tighter it grips that part of your brain telling you to stop.

3. Remaining logical and not panicing. No matter what is happening, the situation you're in always has a logical way out e.g. you're not lost , you're just temporarily off course and need to find a feature that will help you get back on course. You're lost when you panic and start walking in circles.

4. Be able to operate as an individual confidently. You're alone on selection, no one will give you encouragement. That transfers to real world ops, i.e. you might be asked to and do something alone so you have to be able to operate confidently alone.

5. Be able to operate as a team member just as well. So you have to be an expert loner and a good team player.

6. Don't quit. A lot of people quit selection because they believe they are not passing, when in fact they have been doing fine. Even if you're crawling up a hill because you're so exhausted, you haven't stopped, so in effect you haven't quit. Just because you're not winning everything, doesn't mean you're losing.

Get Selected in Mongolia...

Warrior-Mentor,
I thought you would appreciate the attached picture.

I'm currently in Mongolia, training with the MAF 150th PKU. I was reading my copy of your book during some down-time, and the SF Tab on the cover caught the eye of one of the Mongolian officers, LT Myagmardorj. He attended the US Army OCS and is very fascinated with SF. He is part of the UN peacekeeping force deploying to Iraq very soon.
