35D heading to SFAS Spring of 2016

Hello, I am an Intelligence Officer stationed at FT Bliss TX. I have spent the last month or so reading thread after thread acquiring as much knowledge as I can before I attend SFAS in the Spring. Thanks to the QPs, this site has been the biggest positive resource concerning SFAS and the SF community at large I have used thus far.

Northstar 07-08-2015 14:01

Hello

First off thank you to the QP's and everyone who made this site what it is. I ran into this site many years ago early in my enlistment as a (21B) 12B but didn't pay it much mind. Boy what a mistake that was...

Just a bit about me, I am 25, 6 years prior service ARNG (let the flogging begin..), as before mentioned I was 12B. Situated high in the mountains of the west coast, born and raised in the mountains.

Thanks again and look forward to talking with everyone.

Bred4Chaos 07-08-2015 14:42

Been lurking here since 2011.

Former 15W UAV in the ARNG for FL and just left Google to move back to my hometown here in Central Florida.

Supported New Dawn and OEF Iraq/Afghan 2011-2012 as private contractor but still have always wanted to go back in and go for SF.

Now's the time

Disclaimer: Please ignore stupid UserID, created it back in 2011.

22 year old civilian here to learn what I can about special forces while I train my body and mind with sights set on the 18x program.

Ryan_feral 07-11-2015 17:56

I'm a 32 year old blacksmith and artist, formerly an 18D at A 1/3. I enlisted as an x-ray in 2004, did all my time at 3rd group after the q-course, and got out for personal reasons (that will no doubt make me very unpopular here).

I've also been a member of this site for a few years and never made a post until today. I saw something that pissed me off.

I wouldn't think so, also, what pissed you off??

Anyway, welcome aboard. Maybe you can find some old buds on here. keep looking... Good luck

Zatarra 07-12-2015 12:23

I'm 20 years old and stuck between signing for 18x or 11x (as I am more than guaranteed to be this because of the washout rate of 18x). I have been lurking for a few months trying to soak up as much as I can (while having a laugh at the general discussions). I just want to thank all current and prior services members for defending this great country of ours.

My name is Jake and I am 26 years old. Nearing my 8 year mark as a member of the National Guard and I am currently a 91B. In my civilian career I work for a civil engineering company as a CAD Technician/Designer. I joined the site awhile back and have since been using it to gather as much information as I can. I look forward to continuing to browse this site to better prepare myself for whichever road I decide to take in my military career. Thank you to all who participate and manage this forum!

I am 24 years old, currently stationed in "the Army's best kept secret" I'm from the southern US, so the climate difference has been amusing. I've been going over my options for a while now as far as getting out of my current job, i knew i wanted to do something more fulfilling and where brotherhood actually meant something, so i started looking..and here i am. If i didn't mention something, feel free to ask. Thanks.

Hey; how ya doin' gentleman?

I'm a 26 year old California Army National Guardsman. Civilian world; I go to school and valet cars part time.

Came here to read up on the SF SFRE at the local Guard base and hopefully, maybe one day, try out for one.

Awesome Forum!

I am 19, planning to enlist on an 18x contract in about one year, due to the age requirement. I am using that time to prepare.

Network Engineer here. Was in the USAF as a network admin. Moved to contracting. Did a year in Iraq. Build up a mesh network in Diyala called TactiComp. Some of you may have heard of it.

I have expertise in most harris products. Notably the 152, 152A 117F and PRC 150. I specialize is making those radios work with custom Android kernels.

For my free time im an avid long range shooter. Lots of 600 and 1000 yard competitions.

Hello,

I am a NPS individual in Northern Virginia, working on PT and building knowledge about the regiment. My profession is engineering.

PS has been a great source of insight in the last couple of years. I'm finally making an introduction.

I look forward to finding some more local training partners.

As you all are to all of we free Americans, he was my hero as a soldier, and an important force in my life as a partner for many years. His active time was in the early 80s with Unit 555, and for the past 5 years, has been deploying as a contractor for the DoD.
It's two months today since his untimely death, and I'm happy to be here so that I can read and, I hope, learn more about Tom's motivation, his dedication and his drive as a soldier first, before all.
He was a very quiet man when it came to such things, and he is sorely missed.
Thank you to all here.

Preparing to Enlist as an 18X (Will need medical waivers and ETP's)

Hello all,

My name is Daniel, and I am a 26 year old male currently in the process of preparing myself to attempt to re-enlist as an 18X. I previously enlisted in 2008 as a 42F, but was discharged for getting the wrong medical waiver. I have a condition called nystagmus. I have no criminal record and have a four year degree. I recently underwent LASIK surgery to correct my vision in May 2015. My best vision in both eyes are now 20/40, which is a lot better than the 20/60 nearsight and 20/80 farsight when I enlisted in 2008. I am now currently preparing myself physically and mentally by reading up and gaining more knowledge about the U.S. Army Special Forces in general, their mission and purpose, their history, and experiences from active and former members. I am also looking into the process of being able to re-enlist, including medical waivers and exception to policies. I plan to start all of the paperwork six months out from my LASIK procedure (November), since it is required by AR 40-501. I also want to thank all of the members of the U.S. Army Special Forces, and all members of the Armed Forces, for the service and dedication.

jam1 07-30-2015 17:45

Prior service 11c, considering trying to go 18x through the National Guard.

Came here looking for info for a friend (my son's TKD/BJJ coach) who just left for basic on an 18X contract. Intent was only to read and learn. Stumbled onto a thread that hit home and (despite my natural tendencies as an asocial luddite) decided to join and attempt to add relevant, positive commentary.
ME: Retired Army CW4. Eight yrs big green, 13 yrs 160th. Currently working as contractor in support of regimental acquisition / modernization efforts. Was fortunate enough to have worked with most corners of SOF ground community while working as a mission pilot. Always liked SF the best (as a whole) because they were focused, competent, down to earth, and very easy to work with.
Pre 9-11 used to do lts of Robin Sages as well as SFAUC and SFARTAETC support. Post 9-11 spent more than a couple of nights dropping guys off on the dark side of the moon at ridiculous altitudes.
Always had the utmost respect for the men and what they did. Even the ones who bitched about all the questions we asked. Most all "got it" once we explained that all those questions were written in the blood of their predecessors.

Hello

I am 27 years old and am looking at the 18X program as a way to get into the special operations community, which is what I have wanted to do ever since I was a little kid. There have been many distractions in life keeping me from finally going this path but it is something I know I can't put off much longer.

There is a wealth of information on this site and I find myself reading for hours on end.
Thank you to all the contributors and especially the Quiet Professionals for building/running such an awesome community.

First of all I want to say thank you to all of the QP's on this site who take the time to post. The information I have found has been extremely helpful for my wife and me. I am 26 years old and just enlisted 18x. I am currently in law enforcement and love my job, but I have always had military aspirations. My wife, God love her, finally told me to stop talking about the Army and just do it already. Two days later I was sitting at a recruiter's desk. I am currently working on my conditioning and mental game. I'm trying to just focus on the 25m target. OSUT is right around the corner and I cannot wait for the challenge ahead of me. Ship date - 10/14/2015.

Introduction

Hello all,

My name is Danny and I am currently a senior attending a university in California; I am working on a degree in the sciences. After completing my B.S. next year, my intentions are to acquire an 18x contract. My whole life I have known the military is something I am passionate about. After many google searches asking general questions, I found this site. And through this site, I have read a lot of useful information already and expect to find many more jewels of knowledge. As well, I am glad to finally have a venue in which I can ask questions directly to a well-informed audience.

I am hopeful that sometime in the near future I can find a mentor to help guide me through the process. I am currently reading "GET SELECTED" and will likely reread it in the upcoming months to keep everything fresh and in perspective.

Thank you all for your time and I hope to stand beside you one day.

What makes you think you need a mentor?

What do you expect your mentor to do for you that you should not be doing for yourself already?

Robbie Vanheste 08-17-2015 04:03

Hello my name is Robbie i'm 16 and very motivated to join the special forces (of my own country, Belgium).
My father is in the military and the last 6 months i began to seriously think about joining this sf group.

I have been training running, swimming, survival and martial arts(aikido and close combat) for about one year now and the actual reason why i joined this page is because i want to know how and what i need to train to elevate my chances of becoming a silent professional one day. I will have to join the para-commando's first for about 4 years and then i can take the step to the sfg.
If anyone wants to help me by saying how and what to train i would be very happy.
now i can:
- run 8 miles at a good speed.
-swim 2-3 miles (nice speed aswell)
-Do 50 push ups
-10-12 pull ups
-walk (with backpack) 20 miles (could maybe do more, never done it...)

Friendly and respectfull greets

My name is Jon. I recently got out of the Marines. I was an Infantryman in 2/1 Golf co. During my last deployment I had the opportunity to work with 1st Force Reconnaissance where we primarily focused on DA and VBSS missions for a Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Working with SOF and getting to know all of the awesome dudes made me want to lat move to recon, but they convinced me that Army SF was the way to go. So here I am, training for selection and trying to seek the knowledge of you guys without gaming the game. Glad to be here.

Hey guys, my names Nick. Just another young man seeking a career within the military. I come from a long family history of veterans and I guess I've always felt it was my destiny to do the same.
I've got a few unanswered questions that I hope this forum will eventually provide given due time, I'll probably be sticking around for a little while.

Thanks

Greetings

Greetings Gentlemen,

Firstly, I would like to begin by recognizing that your perseverance and adaptability as a QP is truly inspiring. Also, I would like to express my gratitude for enabling the community through this network.

I am a 30 years old civilian (naturalized U.S. citizen), hold a Bachelor of Science degree, and proficient in four languages (namely, Dari, Pashto, Urdu and English). I am interested to learn, and if given an opportunity, to earn a position in the National Guard Special Forces. I am a science oriented, nerdy and just a bit reserved kind of a person. Although I have a lot to research on my own, I would like to begin this journey by first figuring out how I will fit in the Special Forces community. I hope to learn and ask questions from the Middle Eastern American QPs (if there are any), as well as all other professionals here.

Respectfully,

Lactose
