Hello,

I'm a 21 year old student at the moment who just signed an 18x contract last week. I've been a reader of this forum for a long time and wanted to finally sign on and introduce myself. Thank you for having me.

Introduction

Hello,

I hope this is not too long-winded:

I am currently a 22-year-old college student from Iowa. I am a SPC in my very early military career. Before learning about PS.com, I was scouring the web and books such as the Get Selected! series for every scrap of reliable information I could find, as my new-found fascination for the quiet professionals was growing.

Through my reserve unit connections, I found this site, as well as the 20th SF group and their readiness assessment process. I am making a visit over to the Marseilles Training Area this weekend and hope that I can earn a chance to make SF a reality for me.

I am studying psychology, and am near-fluent in Spanish. My passions include learning (though the Prussian model of the U.S. is not my favorite medium for this), fitness and sports, philosophical thought, and ballistics.

I enjoy the warrior spirit found in all SOF, but my dream of becoming SF is founded in their unique interaction in the human medium and the idea that the mind is a more powerful tool than the weapon.

My intentions on this site are to quietly gather more information about the SF culture and hopefully incorporate this into my own journey. To find a mentor here would be a dream come true, far-fetched as that may be.

I look forward to the future eagerly hoping SF will be part of mine.

new to forum...

Hello Friends, been watching the posts on this site for a few years and finally rogering up. I was selected in Mar 2012, then (as a guard guy) went overseas working for OGA for almost 7 years. Currently re-enlisting in NG as a GSC guy.
Big on commo, I have a lot of experience downrange solving problems. I am also a machinist and am making some of my own specialized gear I wish I had downrange; always interested in talking with folks of like mind.

Thank you,

Hi, I'm a guest - my fiancée is going through the 18D course right now (I think that's how you say that...)

I'm a dual army 'brat' and going to continue the cycle to be a wife soon. (Yes, I know getting married during the Q is generally a bad idea).

Since I won't have much to contribute, and will only be reading the posts, I figured it was a good idea to still introduce myself. I'm just trying to learn all that I can about what I'm getting ready to marry in to, so I can best support my fiancée.

spd0302 Introduction

Thank you very much for accepting me into your community. I enlisted in the Marine Corps leaving a very abusive home in 1988, and even went open contract, to get the earliest date I could. I really did not know the Marine Corps had anything, but tough looking men that shot things, and while at Parris Island, my manhood shrunk to peas when I realized I could be anything from cook to admin to (man I have no idea).
In any case I ended up a 6466 Avionics FLIR tech and was stationed with MALS 11 in El Toro working on DRE's for the A6, and F/A-18 FlIRS. Did a deployment to Iwakuni in support of MALS 12, returning to EL Toro not 6 months later, 11 months later at the end of Desert Storm.
Finished my enlistment out in 1992 and went off to school with the goal of becoming an Infantry Officer in the Marine Corps and lead Marines at the Company level (Head scratcher I know...Avionics to Infantry....OCS, TBS, IOC...anytime someone ready to give me a hard time for something I did wrong you would hear, "WHERE IS MY ROCKET SCIENTIST."
Upon completion, I served as Weapons Platoon Commander for 2/3 Echo and later XO for 2/3 Echo based out of Marine Corps Base Kaneohe from 96-98. Deployed to Hansen, and was small boat company for the 31st MEU on the Belleau Wood in 97. I was your basic line Infantry Officer who worked hard to be the best leader I could for my Marines and maintain contact with many today. We trained hard, did not do any high speed low drag type of things most on this forum have, but we were ready for the call, and I consider myself lucky now that when I resigned my commission in 1998, that while I had dreams of gloriously leading my men in battle, I left with no such war stories. Still I am very proud of my service, and due to any lack of direction growing up, it was the Marine Corps that taught me to be the man I am today, and strive to be the best husband I can be to an awesome wife, and the best dad I can be to an amazing 12 year old daughter.

I am an IT Consultant now, and the lessons from the Corps have served me well, and I feel very lucky to have the life I have. My three closest friends are TBS and IOC classmates of mine and we are still as close as brothers today.
I live in Philadelphia with my family and our favorite activity is being in the mountains skiing and snowboarding as much as possible. My daughter is a nationally ranked slalom skier for her age group and is pursuing her dream to represent our country on the US Ski Team in time for the 2018 Olympics.

As I look at how much the Corps has done for me, I am now at a point that I want to give back and support our warriors in any way I can. Sr. Chief Don Shipley's "Phony Navy SEAL of the Week" opened my eyes to how sick some people can be in pursuit of stolen valor, and while I have met many "Force Recon" Marines and "SEALs" throughout my life in various watering holes, etc., I always informed them of my humble role, pride in it, and walked away sad for a loser with low self esteem. Perhaps I was naive, but a cursory search of the web opened my eyes to just how bad stolen valor can be with con men and sociopaths out there. It was during this search that I came across this forum as well as SSAT1 on FB of which I am a member.

That being said I am on this forum to support the community in any way I can, help any brother in critical need, and from a selfish point, learn from warriors that served at a more elite level from me with regard to anything from service related items to what your experiences have done for you as you have grown through life.
It is an honor to be accepted in the community among such elite warriors, and I will do my best to learn all I can in this forum, and support the forum.
Best regards,

DocPadg 04-11-2014 18:10

I am a doc currently in POG land at FT Lee. Planning on attending selection next fiscal year when I get back in shape. I have been reading here to get the knowledge to go. I have deployed to Iraq in 2010 to 2011 and worked with I think 3rd g7th group guys. Want to continue service as special forces to be with the best trained men in the country and serve my country the best I can.

18x Hopeful

Hello all,

I am an 18x "hopeful". Keeping my fingers crossed that an 18x slot is still available (I am currently waiting for my college transcripts to arrive, that is the only thing holding me back from reserving an 18x slot for MEPS).

This forum has been an amazing resource; thank you all for the time and effort you put in for us hopefuls.

Have a good one,

Chili Wango

(Long story short, Chili Wango is a type of sauce that my swim team used to sell at swim meets for fundraising. Not only was the name an oddity, but who in the world would buy chili wango sauce at a swim meet? I have used the name ever since for "gamertags", "handles", and other internet-related usernames.)

Good decision HighRoad. SF Need highly motivated, young blood. It takes dedication, not want (" I want the Green Beret") to make the cut. Always want to learn, the opportunity is endless. You will discover that behind a tall mountain is a even taller peak weighting for you. That is the engine that will drive you there. God be with you. With His help, you will make it. Just remember that: It is a journey that counts. :)

Hello,

28 years old former Air Force attempting to re-enlist in the Army under an 18x contract. First order of business is to take a color vision exam this week. According to the Air Force I am color blind but they only accept the PIP so I am requesting to take the FALANT and vivid red/green test. After that I'll need to convince my wife this is a good idea.

Thanks everyone involved for creating such a useful resource for all of us that are trying to figure the correct way to go about becoming a QP.

Welcome to the board. If you need to get her permission turn around and reenlist in the AF. You have to make this decision on your own as you will not have her with you during Selection, Training or on a team. You have to man up and say This is what I am going to do and do it or you will not have the mindset to accomplish the long road to a team. She will have to support you whatever your decision or you will never last or she will not last. An SF wife is a unique person and many have fallen by the wayside.

The Eye test is the same one for a flight physical but for the life of me I can not remember if they accept the PHP or FALANT.
Good Luck.......

Appreciate the welcome but I never said anything about permission, just that my next order of business was to get her on board. I'm not sure if you're married or not but when training and preparing for selection I would rather have her support then have an added worry of my marriage failing and losing my son. From what I gather on this board even the smallest distraction or mishap can cause failure along the way so I plan to limit the amount of distractions as much as possible.

Nothing is going to stop me from reaching my goals but if I can reach my goals with my marriage intact that would be the preferred way.

Used the GI Bill to get through college and spent the last 35 years designing and building computer systems that are used to gather and analyze data (business, not military).

I've been browsing the forums for a while. I saw an unanswered question by MtnGoat in an area where I have some experience. Sent him a response by PM. He asked if I'd post my response to his thread on integrating the Zachman framework with Social Network Analysis.

I'll be a one time poster and then just go back to reading.

Hello all.

Long time lurker first time poster. I'm a 22 y/o civilian EMT attending Paramedic school while working in a high volume ER. I became captivated by SF after learning about the medical training the Deltas receive. Then I found the 18x contract and have had my heart set ever since (would be honored to serve in any SF MOS).

Right now I'm training to get my apft as close to 300 as possible and my ruck miles as quick as possible and will continue to do so while I gain experience as a Paramedic. After which I will enlist under an 18x contract and hopefully get selected.

I will probably not post much (am very familiar with the search button), but would like the option to do so, so here I am.

Hey everybody,

I have been using this site for sometime for advice and tips on being selected and pursuing a career in SF. I am 24, served in the 82nd for a little over 6 years as a 13F and am a new father. I have always intended to tryout for Special Forces since I was kid, my dad was SF and I wanted to be sure I had a little combat and leadership experience before I took this on. Thanks for all the solid guidance on here. Heading to SFAS in two days, thanks again.

Thank you mods for taking your time to make this place. I've read over quite a bit and haven't found anything I didn't learn from. And thank you to all the QPs who have paved the way.

I have purchased the book by Major Martin with Master sergeant Rex Dodson and using it as a guide in my training.
I dont know that I will pass the selection process but I will do my best.
It would be my honor to work with our top soldiers.

Hello QPs, thank you very much for creating this website. I learned a lot from it while going through the recruitment process for the Army.

I am 25 years old and have been in the DEP since early April. I'll be shipping out to Ft. Benning on the 20th of May, 2014. The Army liaison tried to sign me up for 18x due to my scores, but alas... Medical waiver for an arthroscopic surgery years ago DQ'd me. I was pretty let down but I enlisted as an 11x and am gunning for an SOF slot in the Army the old fashioned way, determination! I'll be reading through the forum some more to find as many pointers as possible.

Greetings:

Thank you for your service and the opportunity to participate on this site.

My name is Eric and I am a Server Administrator for a number of colleges and universities in North Dakota.

I have been following this forum for some time after being referred here by NDD's post on "Training the Mind".

I have an interest in firearms and self-sufficiency. I value reading QP opinions on insurgencies and guerrilla warfare as I believe they will be relevant during a "collapse" situation. I've found the information in the "SF Fieldcraft" and "The Early Bird" forum especially useful.

I'm hoping I can be of some value here, especially with any posts "concerning the Matrix", so if you need some computer assistance you can feel free to ask me. I'll try to avoid getting too far out of my lane on other subjects.

Thank you again for the opportunity to be part of this community.

Hello Gentlemen,
I'm a prior-service Navy IS1(SW) looking into joining the Florida Guard with the ultimate goal of ending up in the 3/20th. For now I'm still gathering information about the process and steps to take to get me there when I finish with my educational commitments.

Hallo there. I'm a 16 year old military kid. By that I mean my dad is in I believe his 25th year in the Airforce, and is now nearing retirement as an 06. The overall premise of this board interested me, as I've considered a similar career path as him, but I'll try to stay within my realm of experience. To make a long story short, I've had a short but very experience filled existence. I'll try not to make an ass out of myself here while also sharing what I know. Cheers.

Introduced myself here a few years ago when I first joined the board in 2010

Started out as a NG 12B and went active duty as a 12B after a year I went to SFAS. I did an on the job training stint for 9 mos. with B/2/1 SFG(A) as an 18C trainee before going to the Q.

Got assigned as an 18B trainee started in 2002 and finished in 03. The best training I ever had in my military career was the Q. I have been to some great schools that are equally as professional but the Q gave me everything I needed to know to succeed in SF. The rest is extra icing the advanced skills the advanced schools for whatever the need was were good but not what the Q was in the grand scheme.

Originally graduated the Q in 2003 assigned to 10th Group missed the invasion arrived after and OIF 1 due to Battalion Assignment went with 2nd Bn to OIF2 . Got the luck of being a SWTG instructor in SUT 06-09 as much as Cadre complain about the long hours training future SF guys was an incredible experience.

I am currently a Chief Instructor in the SWTG somewhere in the 1st Bn Pipeline.

Re-introducing myself

Hello and good afternoon everyone. Thank you to the QP's and all other veterans on the board for your service to the nation.

I originally joined the board in 2011, but I have not been very active. I'm more of a read and absorb type. There is so much valuable information here already, I have nothing to contribute anyways LOL. A lot has changed since then so I figured I would re-introduce myself.

I enlisted several months ago as an 18X and have been finishing my Master's degree in Intelligence Collection. I just submitted my thesis project, a study on how the Special Forces UW/FID missions can have a positive impact on the CIA, so I am quite excited about that.

I ship to OSUT soon and I couldn't be more excited! I am looking forward to continuing to learn from this board and to the trials ahead on the road to my dream!
