SFC W. R. Brown Funeral
 

Guys,

We laid SFC Brown to rest on Friday, 17 NOV 06, at the DFW National Cemetery. 3rd SFG sent several teams to do the honors. CG, USASFC, was also there and the Patriot Guards, who are very active in this area, were out in numbers to escort the family from Fort Worth and provide people to display the national colors in abundance. We attend every SFers funeral and had about 20 members of SFA Chapter XXXI in attendance. RIP. Here's a pic of the arrival at the site where the memorial ceremony took place at the DFWNC.

I fought along side him on Sperwan. We killed hundreds upon hundreds of those little fuckers. One hell of a warrior who shouldered more then his share of responsibility. Bill, you will be missed my brother. RIP

PRESS RELEASE: Army Special Forces Soldier dies in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, November 7, 2006) — An Army Special Forces Soldier stationed here died Nov. 6, when an Improvised Explosive Device detonated near his Humvee in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar while deployed in support of combat operations.

Sgt. 1st Class William Brown, 30, was a senior Special Forces weapons sergeant, assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group here.

He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in August 2006.

A native of White Settlement, Texas, Brown enlisted in the Army June 2, 1994, as an infantryman. After completing basic and advanced individual training and airborne school at Fort Benning, Ga., he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, there. In 2002, Brown was selected for duty as a U.S. Army recruiter and served in Dallas, Texas. In 2004, Brown volunteered for Special Forces training and upon completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course he was assigned to 3rd SFG as a Special Forces weapons sergeant. He was with the 3rd SFG until his death.

His awards and decorations included the Bronze Star Medal for valor, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, U.S. Army Recruiter Badge (silver), Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Tab.

Brown is survived by his wife Audra, children Trenton and Emily of Hope Mills, N.C. His mother, Anita Walton, of Boyd, Texas, also survives him.

RIP SFC Brown

Trent, I am sorry for your loss. You might be interested to know that a book is currently being written regarding Operation Medusa in which your dad was the team sergeant of one of the ODA's involved. To the best of my knowledge it has not been published. It was to be titled The Devil's Back. I will see if I can dig up the authors email address for you. He interviewed almost all those involved.
