Our minor league (6,7, & 8 yr old) Red Sox team won yet another nail-biter 7-6. My 7 year old got the game ball today! Frosties for everyone (named Bandy...I'm a cheap son of a gun). :D

Ahh, the Iceman. Used to love to watch him and David Thompson go at it.

What about Dr. J?

IMO, he gets less credit now than he deserves.

I have plenty of bad memories of what he and the Sixers did to the Lakers in the early 80s. :(

The thundering dunk over Cooper and that drive along the baseline <<LINK2>>.

Who knows how things would have unfolded had Andrew Toney's feet held up.

(I cannot believe the Sixers are thinking about giving Larry Brown a job. He's The Associate's version of the president: the current job is only a stepping stone to the next gig.)

  • With each passing day, I get ever closer to finding a magic portal that drivers--or other persons of interest--use so they do not have to pay for parking. (Lamentably, once I find that portal and close it, another will open in its place.)
  • With the exception of the assistant manager, I have a staff comprised entirely of Teamsters.
There is probably absolutely no relationship whatsoever between the two points listed above. No, I'm serious. Absolutely none.

Well, maybe a little.

As of today, my wife has been able to be a stay-at-home mom for 10 years.
Hard work, frugality, and sacrifice have seen it through.

Won't ever have all the cool toys or fancy lifestyle.
The kids are worth it.

For years I had a "Family Circus" cartoon on the inside of my bathroom "medicine cabinet." It said, "You can give your kids one of two things: time or money. Time is better."

I've never regretted being the "Stay At Home Dad" for my daughters' early years. It is worth it. Money is NOT everything.

Good on you and your wife!

Just gave my 10 year old (today!) his first BB gun.
He was suprised. The picture is priceless.

Both my parents were career teachers.
Their work schedules matched the school schedules of me and my sister.

Had my mother as a teacher in 5th grade English, 9th, 10th, and 12th grade French.
Had my father as a teacher for 10th, 12th grade English; he was my high school basketball coach, and track coach for several years.

Can't give quite the same thing to my own kids, but UPS has generous paid time off, and staffing allows for some unpaid time off as well.
They're kids for only a short while. Doin' my best to make the time count.

Oh, that brings back memories, and a tear to the eye. 10 is such a great age. You have my sincere envy.

I have a friend that's deployed...had a brief exchange with him late last night about some stuff, including the food he's eating "over there"...

Got up early this morning and went to help my dad with some gardening I had promised him. Was in the middle of hanging out with my dad, small talk and laughter and pulling weeds around the vegetables, when I suddenly thought of my friend.

In the midst of my happy, carefree morning, someone was sacrificing their time away from their family to ensure that I had a lifetime of mornings like this.

My "happy thought of the day" is really a thanks to all of you "over there"....my words are small, but thanks, Warriors, you're efforts are appreciated and will not be in vain.

In his wisdom, a member of my staff parked his luxury saloon so close to his workstation that I could not help but notice it.

But everything is going to be fine. You see, the guy explained that he's from down south and that Jaguars are less expensive there.

Nice car, diphthong

The "aha" moment that comes after thinking how a guy who works one shift a week as a parking cashier can afford a Toyota Camry hybrid.

Hint. If anyone working in a parking facility consistently chats you up, it aint necessarily because he [or she] is especially friendly or finds you to be an interesting person--especially if the conversation consistently turns to your travel and/or vacation plans.

Summer is very much here!

Kids are eating popsicles and playing in the wading pool under our cherry tree.

Two weeks ago, we were coming back from Fredonia (~60 miles west) and hit a snow storm.
It's 105 degrees outside right now. :D

Love summertime.

Looking forward to a much-needed weekend off - I will get to see my son's last soccer game of the season (he's the league's standout player :lifter), play my first round of golf of the year with my father and catch up on the yardwork.
