I may even stop at the grocery store for a can of spam on my way home today. Spam is the T-bone steak older brother to fried bologna |

Breakfast sammiches !
Ok, on the road in a pinch, gotta admit a couple of good ole sausage McMuffins with egg sometimes does the trick.
At home, wheat toast, peanut butter and cover that peanut butter toast with honey!! |

This poster was previously warned to not post again until he provided an introduction, and has failed to comply. I have deleted five posts, all of which were little more than spam and several of which necro'ed threads from years ago. Also, the poster's IP address is in Ukraine, so probably not a legitimate aspiring forum member anyway. I will keep deleting his posts until an Admin finds time to show him the door. I ate oatmeal for breakfast for a very long time, but then I got very tired of it and now I make these sandwiches each morning. Keep the recipe, you might like it too.
18 slices of bread Butter (to taste) 6 slices ham 6 slices turkey (or chicken) Optional: mustard (to taste) Optional: mayonnaise (to taste) 12 slices Swiss cheese (or Gruyere cheese) 3 large eggs 1/3 cup milk 1/8 teaspoon salt 1) Gather the ingredients. 2) For each sandwich use 3 slices of bread. Butter one side of bread first. 3) Then cover with a slice of ham and a slice of turkey or chicken. 4) Butter both sides of the second slice of bread and spread with a little mustard or other mayonnaise, if desired. 5) Place the bread slice on top of turkey or ham slice and top with 2 thin slices of cheese. 6) Butter the third slice for top; press sandwich lightly and trim crusts. 7) Cut each sandwich into halves diagonally and secure with toothpicks. 8) In a medium bowl, beat eggs with milk and salt. 9) Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add butter to coat the pan. 10) Carefully dip the sandwich halves into the egg mixture. 11) Brown the sandwiches on all sides, adding more butter to the pan when necessary. 12) Remove toothpicks before serving and serve immediately while still hot and crispy. 13) Pair with fresh brewed guatemalan coffee, a side salad, and a pickle, and enjoy! |

Can't believe I didn't catch this earlier. A long time ago in a Cold War galaxy far away, we had a cook. Oh my, we had a cook. He was the Golden Retriever of cooks, SP5IC "Jimmy Jay." This guy must've had assets all over, at least at Battalion, but probably up at the Brigade. Whenever the klaxon went off at oh-dark-thirty, that most beloved of cooks was already there as we were headed down the stairs, out of the building on the way to fight Ivan. He'd already been up and would meet us at the bottom of the stairs and hand each:
Egg, cheese, big non-standard size sausage patty, all between 2 pieces of thick French Toast. I often think of him and hope he got to have that sandwich shop in Tuscaloosa that he talked about. We would have killed for that guy. |

Just the other day I was reminiscing about 'the best breakfast sandwiches' and I was taken back in time to a day when the MFFS was still at fort Bragg. There is a little hole in the wall gas station at the intersection of 211/Aberdeen Road and Chicken/Army Road - back the the day its was called "Parks" gas station.
When we would pile onto the cattle trucks on Ft Bragg on our way out to MacKall for jump ops, we would stop at Parks to get breakfast sammies. They would throw the bread right on the griddle with the the eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, and yes - even bologna. My favorite was the egg and bologna with cheese A fried bread, egg, cheese, and bologna sammich was divine. A cup of joe and a Parks Breakfast sammich was a worthy combination. If you were going to frap in as a HALO student, doing it with a belly full of Parks breakfast sammich would have been a great way to go. |
Ahh yes, Parks breakfast sammiches and a hot cup of coffee when it was cold as hell. They did fill your belly and give you a little warmth on those cold mornings. :lifter

Without a doubt, the second best thing about HALO school at Ft Bragg.

Recently, I really like to make a vegetable salad in the morning! I like to get up in the morning, pour vegetables from a hose nozzle sprayer, go to wash, pick vegetables from the garden, cut tomatoes, cucumbers into a plate, add onions, and season with olive oil. Masterpiece!
|
Bro...
What kind of breakfast sammy are you making out of cucumbers and olive oil? I know that there are many dishes out there that have a vegetarian substitute so I am totally not busting down the idea of a breakfast salad... HOWEVER For the meat eaters out there, I have an incredible ingredient that can be used as a cucumber substitute... sausage links. I also have a great lettuce substitute... bacon One of my favorite breakfast salads is a sliced sausage with diced onions and tomato - served on a bed of crisp, freshly tossed bacon "leaves" I finish it off with biscuit sized oven fresh 'croutons' and a sawmill gravy 'salad dressing' best breakfast salad ever |
That amalgam of elements, all high on the periodic table... inspired.
:lifter |
Mmmmm, Bacon leaves!
