I think Dr.Doom has got it right. That's how it was explained to me when I joined the group in 1966.

LOL... well with that encouragement here goes:

Based on my very limited research, 3rd Group was established with personnel from the 1st, 5th, 7th, and Training Groups of 1st Special Forces. The motto would seem to reflect that lineage.

Is that an accurate appreciation of the meaning behind the motto?

You forgot 10th Group, but that is understandable, we do it too.

Way back in the days that may have been true however, when 3rd Group was re-established it was stood up by guys from 3rd Bn 5thSFG(A) and became 1st Bn 3rd SFG(A)...there was only one battalion for a while.

Actually TR, 10th did not contribute to 3rd as they were in Germany. The colors of the 3rd Group flash indicate the groups involved in the establishment of the Group. The original flash showed a blending of htese groups into one, but alas, some PC idiot thought it resembled a nazi swastika and had it removed.

Old memories, may be off abit but ColMurph can confirm or deny.

I'll take your word for it, LR.

Would have thought that they would have gotten someone from 10th as part of their diversity program. :D
