Kreiger, Obermeyer, Schneider, etc. are all good barrels.

I am partial to Lilja because they shoot well and my gunsmith likes them, and I also like Rock 5Rs when he is making a good run.

Pretty much any barrel maker's blanks can be threaded for a Mauser, turned to any profile you desire, and chambered for the round of your choice. All you need to pick is the caliber (bore diameter) and twist.

The bolt face may have to be modified if your round does not have the same dimensions as the original chambering. .30-06, .308, .270, .243, etc. are all the same head size, MOL.

I wish I had read this 11 months ago. Used to be an EST 2000 grease monkey, and there were all these malfunctions beyond simple repair in the manual ie. trigger won't reset, failure to fire, laser prob. etc. Also the M4 model was strangely more reliable/lasted longer than the A2 despite equal use :confused:. A simple puchase order for USGI parts could have solved most of it:(

I realize you're looking for a varmint rifle, but if you're looking for something in a .224 caliber I'd stick with a 1:12 or so. I recently built a SPR clone with a White Oak Armament 1:7 barrel and as expected I can't get it to group bullets under 75 grains worth a damn, but she loves the 77 gr Match Kings.

Is your Mauser action commercial or military? The only varmint round that I know of that works with the military standard bolt face is the .22-250...

Just an update.I've rebarreled with a 27.5 inch 1in10 twist Shileen barrel. Timney trigger. metal rail, smoothed bolt, and mounted a new Leatherwood scope.
I don't know where you got I was looking for a Varmint gun. I shoot 200 gr *mm Sierra BTHP. I enjoy it much. Just looking for a tack to drive. Blitzzz
