Kids were playing in the backyard barefoot yesterday.
Spring is near.

Went down to the overlook above Lakeshore drive last evening.
My wimpy camera doesn't do it justice.

Wow, that is low! Areas that would have been too deep to dive a few years back are now reachable!!!!

It's only down about 80 feet from full pool.
Back in 2005, it was down 145 feet.

Worked here in Page during the summer of '93.
The lake went up 56' between March 1 and July 15.

Yesterday, saw the first flock of Sand Hill Cranes flying north across North Georgia.
Today, saw two more large flocks heading home to the northern states after wintering in Florida.
Spring (and warmer weather) will be here in a few weeks!! :)

All of our snow has almost melted, I've got a whole mess of knives that are just about ready for heat treat, there is homemade chocolate cake and fresh bread in the kitchen, and our skunks are out waddling around in the yard.

Warm, to the point...and aromatic. Very nice.

:D....jd

I see what you did there. :D

Sometimes, I realize that it's the little things that are the best.

It's funny. I might have a rough day, and after the dust has cleared, I'll be out on the deck having a smoke and a drink and trying to figure out what my malfunction was... And then the skunks will come waddling out of the darkness, and suddenly I find myself realizing just how good I have it.

Here as well. But no chocolate cake. :( I do, however, have a pomegranate and blueberry sherbet.

Beautifully sunny and cloudless day - I heard the sound of radial engines and went outside to watch a B-25 fly by at around 300' AGL followed about a minute later by a Spitfire. One of the joys of living near the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. :D

Shortened day due to AIMS testing. Students busily working... actually working. Half way through the week (Tuesday night is my "Hump Day"!) and... 10 1/2 weeks to retirement. :D

mojaveman 03-01-2011 21:09

After running on fumes for the past three years things are starting to look up. We established a contract with a new grass roots business and I just might be seeing some 40 hour work weeks again. :lifter

Good for you!
The finish line is near.

Ya know...there's only one scuba instructor doing business up here...
and there's some other guy who got approval from the airport to do a skydiving business.

Another QP from this site mulled over the skydiving business thing a few years ago.
Page might not be a bad place for semi-retirement if the individual has the right skill sets.

<edit>
Forgot to add that the gun range (pistol and rifle) is 10 minutes away from the furthest point in town, 5 minutes from the nearest.
Private range, membership is ~$35 year for the whole family, usage is light, and hours are wide open (generally unmanned).

The thought has crossed my mind. However, the wisdom imparted to me by the first dive shop owner for whom I worked keeps running around in my mind:

"Do you know how you make a small fortune in the dive business? First, start with a large fortune..."

He also said this pearl of wisdom, as we drove back to the DTC section of Denver from a particularly trying open water certification at Woodmore Lake in Colorado Springs:

"Why would ANYone want to own a dive shop in Denver, Colorado?" Within two weeks, his share was sold, and he was in Florida!

Ret10Echo 03-02-2011 18:58

The only gun shop in a 25 mile radius just relocated his business less than a mile from the house...:D

Spending several hours yesterday 'touring' the New Belgium Brewery in Ft Collins with my younger daughter and her hubby from San Diego, as well as my older daughter and my year old grandson (you can't start 'em TOO young).

I've toured some breweries in my day, but this one was exceptional! To quote my hero, Homer, "Mmmmmmm, beer."

Sounds like a day well spent. The best brewery I ever visited was the Hasseroder brewery in Wernigerode Saxon-Anhalt Germany. Good beer too. :D

Congrats, Doc!!

I had lunch and spent a few hours talking non-stop with a g/f I haven't seen in over 15 years. It was like we just saw each other yesterday.

First camp-out of 2011

For the last couple days, our 4YO grand-daughter has been wanting to camp out, so we set it up for last night. We didn't range very far, really just out to the edge of our back yard, but it had the desired effect.

Campfire & stories, ribeyes & burgers, roasted marshmallows, star gazing etc... things were going awesome. Then around 0100 or 0200 - depending which clock to believe - some distant coyotes woke up our intrepid camper "Poppy! Those ARE NOT doggies!" and she popped smoke on the whole gig. :D She wasn't buying into that old "They are more afraid of us, than we are of them..." line either.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I'm looking forward to her briefback later on when she rises.

Thanks

Mounted the motor and we went into the bay here and were stopped 3 times in an hour by the local water cops...... Park Service/Old San Juan PD/State PD...

When asked why they said they had not seen this type of boat there before........... Thank god they do not drive the streets or they would be pulling every car over with that outlook..... Luckily I had all the paperwork in order..... Well off on Monday to get the registration finished..... Temp tags are a hassle....

Came back and had breakfast and went out to the point to do a dive. It was so much easier to zip out dive and return without wasting the whole day.......

Off next weekend to Culebra........ wil be my next Happy Thought.:lifter

Tress 04-03-2011 17:33

Sitting on the couch with the 4 year old man-cub entertaining random questions about lizards, swords, and rain while watching the lightning storm. There is no place I would rather be. :)

I dunno...how long does it take for embalming fluid to be completely metabolized by a corpse?
