Hello,
I've been consistently lurking here for about 5 years now so I think its about time I introduced myself. I'm a 25 year old with a Mechanical Engineering degree. I grew up building old cars and motorcycles in Northern Cailfornia and have continued that. I do a lot of distance running, hiking, swimming, and have been shooting and hunting since I was 5 or 6. I've done a lot of backpacking, orienteering, rock climbing, surfing, and I'm a pretty fair xc/tele skier. I'm also a reasonably experienced metal fabricator (GMAW GTAW SMAW oxy fuel, lathe/mill, anything really), mostly for myself but have spent some years for work too. Recently I've started adding crossfit style workouts into my routine as well. I've read the "Get Selected" book a dozen times or more, as well as reading lots of other good resources and watching every fuzzy SF youtube video I can find. I can get by in Spanish and I practice about 5 days a week. I like creative problem solving and I like helping people too, and I think enlisting through the 18x program would be a good place for me. It's something I want badly. If you need anything more from me, I'll be lurking around Thanks for your time, |

Good Morning Everyone,
My name is Scott, I'm Active Duty Navy currently stationed in Norfolk, VA. I'm originally from Southern California and I love to swim and surf. I will be attending the upcoming SFRE with B/1/20 SFG (A). Any wannabe's like me in the Tidewater area of Virginia feel free to contact me if you need someone to train with (especially if you have experience with Land Nav). Additionally, if anyone in the area is having trouble with swimming/water confidence, I'd be happy to assist or point you in the right direction as I have a good amount of experience in the water as a qualified Navy Rescue Swimmer (Surface) and a life-long beach bum. (Moderators please let me know if this is not appropriate.) As always, a BIG thank you to all the SF guys for passing on info and lessons to us wannabe's, I'm sure I speak for everyone here in saying that we really appreciate it. -Scott |
Introduction
Greetings to all,
I am a SSG in the TXARNG. My interest is the 19th Group at Bullis. I just wanted to post my intro so I may interact with all of the very knowledgeable Professionals on this site....and not have the Reaper come after me :( |
Hello Everyone. I want to start by saying thank you to the moderators and also, the quiet professionals for their shared wisdom and service to our country. I am here to be educated and to expand on research I have conducted. I am confident that I am at a maturity level necessary to begin training and adapting to the SF lifestyle. Currently, I work as a counselor for homeless youth. Also, I am a student in the last semester of my undergraduate degree. I also possess a certificate for completing a course as an emergency medical technician. I am an avid rock climber with summer plans to climb half dome accompanied by three climbing friends that I absolutely trust. Along with those plans I am in the process of creating my plan of action for adapting to the SF lifestyle. My first request on this forum is to be steered in the direction of where I may post my plan of action (I am assuming the correct forum would be SFAS). My hope is to have my objectives critiqued and expanded upon. Again, thank you to the members of this community for your support of aspiring SF soldiers.

Welcome aboard, all.
Bandolier, your plan should be the same one that everyone else is told to follow. Best of luck. TR |

Good Evening,
I'm from Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in a very socially introvert family, I was really into mini wargaming, sci fi, all that stuff growing up. At around age 17 was when I seriously looked into enlisting, I dropped weight and got into good shape, but little did I know I was academically behind. My family urged me to stick around and get a better grasp of the world (I took their advice, I won't lie.. it did help me) and now I'm here at 22, worked odd jobs, gained weight, going to classes I don't feel I learn from despite passing, and meeting people who I don't relate to at all. I'm planning on talking to a recruiter by October 1st when my weight drops down. A lot of advice given here to everyone by QPs helps me a lot in my life. Thank you, -Belial |
Hello everyone!
Thank you all for the work you have done and continue to do. Much respect for the efforts of the QPs, ACs, and guerillas. This forum is a great resource and it is fortunate that it's open to non-QPs. First encounter with Special Forces was as a banquet waiter at the Pinehurst Resort, working a dinner/speech function for gentlemen that had triangles printed on their beer glasses. They left an impression. Favorite thread so far is SF/Redneck engineering. Here to lurk and learn, am interested in hard work with good people in bad places with no credit. |
Howdy, I guess.
I joined this board more than a few years ago but never introduced myself or posted. Based on the profile names on here I know many of you because I see code names that I recognize from my time in C/3/7 when it was still on Ft Davis in the early '90s. Or maybe that's just a coincidence...
Anyway, I spent from 1985-2001 in 7th Gp and from 2001-2004 in USASOC on the staff and then retired in Oct 2004. Way back in the day when they still existed, I spent from 1980 to 1985 in he 11th SFG reserves. For the last 12 years I've done both the contracting thing and the GS thing (currently still doing the GS thing). Where I work now I'm surrounded by a bunch of civilian engineer types who couldn't spell Army or Special Forces (figuratively anyway) if their lives depended on it. It's a totally different culture and one I've always struggled to adapt to. As we get older it's amazing how much I miss the people and culture that were the influences that shaped who I turned out to be. So, I thought I'd login and say hey. Maybe participate a bit. |
Hello,
I am currently AD USCG preparing for the SFAD/SFRE within the next year. This site has provided great insight and appreciate all the guidance from the QPs. -R |
Greetings,
I'm an international student from China who is trying to join the military in the US. I grow up reading stories about America and Special Operations(The Quiet Professional; Lone Survivor; Rogue Warrior; First In; The Mission, The Men, and Me; etc.) I finally worked my way to a college here a year ago and had the greatest year in my life here in the States. I love this country when I was a kid, now that I'm here, I loved it even more and decided that I want to serve in the military because it is in service to the nation I love, and is a career track I always wanted to pursue. I was lucky enough to find out a program called MAVNI which allows those who possess the language/cultural background the military needs and are able to pass a SSBI to enlist, and I'm going to enlist under that program next year if it is still there. I don't know how far I'll go, but I'm here, and I guess I'll find out. |
Brief Intro.
Hello friends. My name is Chuck.
I am a former Green Beret Sgt. from 1970-1973. I resided off base in Fayetteville most of the time while in the service and worked in a Weapons Pool issuing and fixing weapons used by trainees . I am retired from John Deere and found I had time to reminisce about the days in the military and found this sight, among a couple others, that interested me. Maybe I will run into some old friends on this sight, although unlikely. Sooo, if you know anyone who worked in that particular pool at the time, let me know. Have a nice day. |
