During the last two weeks, I've endured a couple of howling snow storms near Cheyenne, prayed for olfactory shut down near Greeley, and dug a couple of holes ten inches in diameter and nearly four feet deep through the pavement in county roads in both Wyoming and Colorado...I've been cursed at because of the disruption drilling oil wells brings and been begged to move another's well up the drilling schedule (I have nothing to do with either)...I walked ankle deep in cow shit to survey a center pivot and have spent a good deal of time wondering why two seemingly competent surveyors have a disagreement over the location of a boundary by 26 feet...I've found a monument that "doesn't exist" and been mystified a couple that were supposed to be easy to find...
It's nice to be back in the saddle again...hopefully, the economy will start turning around for everyone else, too... |

Although I am NOT certified for it, I took both dogs for a simultaneous walk yesterday, and soon found myself praying that a squirrel did NOT appear! |

I was recently selected for a job out at Colorado Springs!
I am very happy to leave the People's Republic in my rear view mirror. |

Might get a snow day on Wednesday, almost feel like a school kid! They're saying our "life threatening blizzard" will rival the one in 1968. Which I remember.

Reading
the posts on PS.com and watching the news. Listening to my son talk about a dance on Friday. Making me very grateful of my freedom.

Sounds like a good plan for you lksteve, that's cold! Our winds are picking up here today, heading into tomorrow evening we're looking at 50mph with snow fall estimated at 3 inches per hour. Lots of drifting and accumulation anywhere from 12-28 inches. Depending on the AO drifing from 8-10 feet.
Our boss has tentatively closed the office for Wednesday, we'll see how it all rolls. |

Lots and lots of snow, ice, and below zero temps. Thank goodness for the, Be Prepared thread!!! Now, if only there were a hot guy here to ride out the storm with, and make a snowman outside.........That would be perfect!!!;) :D Holly |

We have been in a blizzard, (see below white out conditions,) since around 0600 this morning, when I first went out to survey the scene. If this is headed your way, take sheler/ precautions now. The WIND is sustained here at 30mph, and gusting a lot harder. Be Safe everone!!! Happy thought...got to make snownballs..... Holly |
^^I just have to ask...what is that first picture?
Before anyone assumes I'm being crude...I was trying to figure out if that was a snowball in the making. |

Just outside my Apt. on the third floor, my landing has about a three foot snow drift, and climbing! :) Thie wind is the kicker in this thing, and it is fierce. Oh, and the entire state of Oklahoma has been put under a state of emergency.....sure we will not be the last. Holly |

I've been prepared for this storm since the weekend. :lifter As I drove home earlier this afternoon (thanks boss for letting us go early) you could see the parking lots jam packed with cars. Guess they didn't hear about the storm. We have 50mph winds now, the snow is litterly being lifted from the ground and you can see some mini snow tornadoes. Since I'm inside, I'm enjoying my winter wonderland. Some of my NG Soldiers have been called up for SAD, they were having a fun time of it this morning getting ready and packing vehicles. Stay safe guys! Quote:

Couple more...
We received 21 inches so far. I know this because of my scientific method of measurement. Snow is over my knees, I'm only 63 inches tall...thus 1/3 of me is covered in show. 1/3 of Gypsy equals 21 inches. :D Supposedly a few more inches may fall today. But the sun is out for now, so the digout begins. One thing that is annoying the hell out of me is the continued round the clock coverage on all stations of the event...enough already. Give us your updates and return us to our "regularly scheduled programming". |

The city I live in and the one in which I work both did a great job clearing the roads and I was in to work in 35 minutes (normally a 20 minute drive) - of course, I did get to work at 0530 to avoid idiots on the road... |
We're Iced in, here in NE FtWorth, since yesterday morning!! Not looking for it to go away until the weekend!! It was +10@ 0500 this morning and currently @ +14.

We're going to be about -30 tonight with wind chills and frigid temps for days, and "snow flurries" over the weekend. |

Just looking at those pictures makes me feel cold. :(
The extended forecast for Southern California is sunshine and 75 degrees. If you're stuck indoors because of the weather be sure to drink plenty of fluids. :p |

Irish Whiskey, check. Tequila and limes, check. Maker's Mark, check. Ok I'm good to go on that advice. :D |

"Emilio Ramirez, 66, was stranded on Lake Shore Drive after the storm dumped 17 inches of snow on the city, and his evening commute became an overnight ordeal. "I've been stuck out here for five hours. This is unbelievable," Ramirez told the Chicago Tribune. "I have half a tank of gas left and have been turning the engine off to save what I have, because who knows when we're going to get out of here? There's no sign of us moving anytime soon." Dude! You're in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world. Look around. Those are DOORS to BUILDINGS. You're not in the middle on Wyoming. People are funny. There was also a picture of an abandoned car (obviously not Emilio's). It was filled with snow. Left the windows down. . . WHY? |

But for the happy thoughts...I was out alone (sometimes I prefer to work alone...especially when I'm debugging new gear) with a piece of new equipment we haven't been able to get running properly...after some cursing and rebooting, got one of our new GPS network rovers up and running and was able to collect data for topography on two ten acre sites before the cell phone battery succumbed to the cold...I had two crews out last week in much warmer weather with the same equipment and didn't get anything done, had to rely on a back-up set of gear to keep up with our client's needs... I'm almost thawed out... |

What do you expect...it's a primarily democratic city. :D Here, check these out. This is Lake Shore Drive on Tuesday afternoon. Took them 24 hours but they cleared miles of cars and LSD was open this morning. http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Lake-S...8efcf9f558802/ |
