I'm an Arkansas Army National Guard soldier, 68W. Graduating college soon, and planning to attend SFRE. I appreciate advice, criticism, and good conversation with anyone that is competent in a given subject. I'm interested in Arabic culture and language, engineering of any variety, and field craft. I fear complacency more than failure, and have a hearty respect for common sense approaches to just about everything.

Hello,
I am a 19 year old student. Through researching about the Army Special Forces, I stumbled upon this forum. Currently, I am a math major, but I'm greatly interested in learning foreign languages and about other cultures. I am studying Chinese in college, self-teaching myself Japanese, slowly learning how to read my mother tongue, and cleaning up my Spanish. I also am on my college dragonboat team, which has taught me a lot about perseverance and "pushing oneself." In the future, I plan to join the army as an officer and then attempt to join the Special Forces. I look forward to reading and learning from the wealth of information here! |

Good evening. I am a 17 year old high school senior. I am currently working on an enlistment with the Illinois National Guard, I'm just waiting on a waiver for my vision to get back. Hopefully when it does, I'll contract as an 11B. I plan on doing ROTC, but Special Forces has been a goal of mine for a very long time, one of which I am extremely passionate about pursuing. The son of a permanently wounded Vietnam Vet, I've wanted to be in the military since I found out what a soldier was. I'm not some kid who thought it looked cool on Call of Duty. I hold the utmost respect for anyone who served. With that established, I'd like to say thank you to all of the Quiet Professionals for your service, as well as your dedication to running this forum. It is much appreciated.

Hey all,
I've been following this forum for almost a year now and finally decided to make an account. I am a 38B (Civil Affairs) with both a deployment to OIF (04-05) and OEF (06-07). I spent the last couple years as a USACAPOC Mobilization Trainer out of JB McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst. I am currently assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit in MD. -Thanks for having me |
Welcome all!

Thanks for having me
Howdy, thanks for having me. I'm just a regular guy from a small town in the South that likes running, hunting, picking things up and carrying stuff. This site has a lot of good info in it so I wanted to say thank you for giving me this opportunity. If there's no questions for me I'm gonna shut up now. I'll be in the corner with my ear to the rail if anyone needs me.

Hello everyone I am currently AD Air Force SERE Specialist. My ETS is 11SEP12. I am trying to get a 18X contract. The recruiter said that it might be difficult because I am an E-5 and they want E-4's. If I cannot get and AD contract I would like to try out for A/5-19th SFG(A) in Southern California.

Introduction and delurk
Hello all,
I am a regular civilian living in North Carolina, and I've lurked on and off around this site for a few years, which I originally found while trying to find information about an individual in a book I was reading at the time. I'm a software engineer, I like playing just about any sport, I actively run, cycle, swim, and study aikido, I like reading about Central Asian history, medieval Islamic architecture, and well-written science for the layman. I'm interested in finding out info about my late uncle, Robert E. Austin, Jr., who I believe served in the C/??/20 in or around 1964-1965, in a detachment (ODB, I think, I don't know if he did time in an ODA) in Jacksonville, FL. He passed away in September of last year in less than ideal circumstances and deserves to be remembered. I would love to hear from anyone who might have known him during his time in service. |

Hi,
Currently an Officer Candidate in the CA ARNG, graduated BCT in June and am awaiting an OCS date in early 2013. |
I just noticed my old intro was completely removed when the old intro thread was deleted, so here we go again.
I served 4+ years AD in the USMC as an 0331, and I currently serve in the reserves under the same MOS. |
Posting? OK I'm new at it.
Hey all. My time in SF was with 5th Group when we were still in Bragg. then DLI then 1st Group. After Oki, I made my way to OH and served with 11SF then 19SF, while working in law enforcement. I bought my military time and retired early as a precinct sgt. with Columbus Police. Later I worked with the UN in East Timor, then worked contracts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Oh the fun. Last year I hiked the A.T. start to finish as a thru-hiker, 5 months. My trail name is Mingo. I went with that because it is the name of my Masonic Lodge. Mingo Lodge 171.
I don't usually get into political debates. I voted for both Bushes which I don't mind saying and I voted for Obama to which I feel equally valid for doing. I vote for whom I believe will serve our country during its current needs. I have never spoken poorly about a sitting president, not even Clinton during the Monica affair. Calling our president names and saying crap like "get the guns" is out right wrong! Being in SF gave me enough strength and knowledge to realize our government is not perfect but it is stronger when we work together. |

Introduction
Hi all,
I am a 19 year old 18x shipping 20130311. I have used this site quite a bit while learning about what SF does and deciding to make earning a green beret my goal. Now that I have enlisted and got my 18x contract I figured it was time to register and post an introduction. I probably wont be posting, as every question I have has already been answered here, so thanks to the QP's who run this site for providing an excellent resource! |
I received a mechanical engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1982 and worked as an aerospace engineer on the Space Shuttle. I then was on the original design team that developed the land attack Tomahawk cruise missile. I then became involved in high level classified stealth missile design. I started my Navy Career in the Naval Air Reserve in 1987. I went to flight school at Pensacola and received my wings as a P-3 Orion naval flight officer in 1990. I flew for three years and transferred to an air operation unit where I stayed and eventually became the XO.
As a reservist, I participated in multiple global deployments and active duty stints focusing on Anti -Submarine Warfare, Maritime patrol and counter narcotics. I took a job as a civilian engineer at China Lake Naval Weapons center in 2002. I went on active duty when I was asked to assume the role of Military Deputy for Weapons. In 2002, I volunteered to go to the Middle East to serve as officer in charge of the deployment of two newly developed CAS targeting platforms during Operation Southern Watch. I was later attached to the Air Force 720th Special Tactics Group in support of SEAL 3 and 5, Army 5th SFG, Navy Helo COmbat Squadron FIVE, Predator, the Air Force 23 STS, and a certain OGA during the start of the Iraq war. I was inserted into SF intelligence where I participated in planning the SEAL atack ont he Al Faw Penisula, SF inserts into Baghdad and other missions. In response to the high air to ground fratricide rate, I was the first to deploy the Precision Strike Suite for Special Operations Forces(PSSSOF) CAS targeting system. There are now over 19,000 users of that device. I was the first military member to receive a military diagnosis for mefloquine toxicity and the first veteran to receive a VA rating for such. I was disability retired as a full active duty Navy Commander and my injuries were rated as combat related. Four members of my reserve unit were diagnosed with the same injury. I have since gotten 16 others to Balboa Naval Hospital and Bethesda where they were all diagnosed with a vestibular injury from mefloquine toxicity. Nine years later, I still have significant issues with my balance and still have vision damage. I have personally triaged over 90 veterans and service members with this disrder by getting them to the proper medical care most others have been denied. I continue to work the mefloquine issue with senior medical professionals in the Department of Defense and the VA. I also work close hold with Congress and veterans service orgnaizations like the Vietnam Vets of America. |
Hello all,
I thought I posted an intro but I just realized I was wrong. I recently enlisted into the CA ARNG as 11B and will be shipping off to OSUT in September. I came to this site to learn more about SF! Thank you. Sean |

Hello Everyone,
I am an active duty sergeant in the Intel field. I did a deployment with the 173d in 2010. I am stationed at a Strategic Unit and really want to get back into the fight. I am currently on orders to go be group support but will be going to SFAS as soon as they let me. Hello,
My name is Cheryl, and I did some time contracting as a Medic over in Afghanistan. I have no former military service. Before I started contracting, I was a Firefighter/Paramedic and then a Training Specialist for Cardiac Arrest Management at a Medical School. I had the opportunity to meet and intereact with some of the SF guys on my FOB and have the utmost respect for them and the job they do. I found this site as I was googling to find out more about the profession, as I didn't like asking them too many questions when I saw them in the chow hall or around camp, as that was their break away from work. I have found everything I have read very interesting and thank you for your service and your information. Cheryl |
Welcome aboard all.
Now get back to work. ;) |
Yet another newby
Good afternoon folks,
Consider myself a visitor sitting on the backporch waiting to be viewd as a guest. Main reason for visiting is for gaining the practical knowledge of those who have already learned it. I am fascinated by human nature and what makes us tick so feel confident that I will learn a great deal. Thank you for allowing me a place at the grown ups table :) Best, Dan |
Hello,
My name is Sean and I enlisted in the Army under the 18X MOS back in May of 2012. My ship date to OSUT is Nov. 12, 2012. A brief history, I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I'm 22 years old and have an Associates Degree in Accounting. I've always wanted to serve in the military, I don't know why, I've always just felt a sense of duty I suppose. In addition to my aspirations to join the service, I also wanted to join the Peace Corps. Although these two ideas may seem contradictory, I beleive they both stem from a desire to help people. In my research I read about the Special Forces. One of my misgivings about the military was an image I had in my mind of soldiers mindlessly bellowing war crys as they stormed the enemy gates. The description of the Special Forces as quite professionals focused on liberating oppressed peoples, who pride themselves on their intelligence as well as physical prowess was exactly what I was looking for. Prior to enlistment I was doing mostly cardiovascular training for marathons. Now that I've shifted my focus to SFAS, I'm doing the training outlined in the Get Selected book which is actually referenced quite frequently on these forums. My last APFT was just a few days ago on 7/23/12 and I was finally able to score a 300. In addition to a rigorous training plan, I've also been participating in GORUCK Challenges which have provided me with some great insights and have also been quite fun in an odd--almost twisted--way. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be here. -Thank you |

Hello all!
I am a prior service E-5 Navy, trying to get to SF. At 30 I know I am about out of time. Being an E-5 I can't just enlist to Active Duty, so I am enlisting as a 38B Civil Affairs reservist. I have run two of my own businesses, and currently working as a company man in the Texas oilfield. I race triathlon and mountain bikes. Since I have started training for SF I have started backpacking and adventure racing. I have been reading and learning here for a while now and have been extremely satisfied with the tips that have been posted. There are some truly insightful people here. |

Sorry, this was brought to my attention by former teammate who frequents this site and told me someone had seen an article about me in the local paper and was trying to figure out if I was a poser or not.

Thank you for the opportunity to join here.
I am currently with 2nd Group MISO. I also just finished up ten months as a Fellow on Capitol Hill while I get my Master's Degree. I am here because I enjoy the threads and I learn a lot from them. I especially enjoy the intellectual conversations had about unconventional warfare, FID and operationalizing intelligence. The revolution in that regard from the SF community has been extraordinary. I appreciate the privilege to be here and thank you for the contributions you've made to the force. Best, S |
