Those two blades with the holes owe their genesis to two primary sources:

1) They are my take on the Ulu - a traditional knife used by the Eskimo, that goes back around 2500 years at least. Of course, I could not leave well enough alone... There's some neat info on the Ulu on Wiki.

2) When I was a kid, there was this store in the mall here called Remington's. I believe they've long since gone the way of the dodo, but back then, it was nerdy little knife dork's dream. This must have been clear back in the late 70's and early 80's. They had a big fat skinning knife in there with a hole in the blade - it was priced far out of my reach, but man, that was the coolest looking knife EVER. So I accessed my memory banks and built these two. There is a third variation of these on the bench that is single hole with a bigger, fatter blade, but I didn't have time to get that one finished for the show.

PedOncoDoc: Ok, so we've got our Ulu angle. Utility, skinning, etc. But then you've also got your combative applications - it is a fistfull of steel, after all. We've got a more acute point for punching holes in things. We've got stuff on there for opponent control. We've got two styles - the smaller Ulu, and then the larger Ulax. And a wide array of hand positioning options on the grip, depending on your task and how much leverage you want.

DJ, the Ulu was what came to mind when seeing the blades with the holes in them. I can see that they can have multiple uses, especially the larger one. Great looking and functional...two of my considerations for any edged weapon/tool.

Just finished these up. Working on sheaths now. Hope you guys like 'em. FYCs, FYC XLs, and harpoon recurves.

Decided I didn't like the flow at the heel/guard after sharpening on the first bunch of FYCs from batch #2. In order to sweep it so it doesn't look sloppy, there ends up being something like a half inch of unsharpened blade in the plunge area. That wasted real estate really bothered me, so I decided to try sweeping the cutting edge all the way up into the guard itself on these. I am really pleased with the result - a big, scary tooth right at that heel. Looks cool, is really beefy, and ends up netting that extra cutting edge. And it's great for heavy duty kitchen stuff that could damage the fine edge on a standard chef's knife.

Got a bunch of new stuff to share with you guys later this week, but in the meantime, here's a quick comparison pic between my Colubris and the Boker Plus version that just hit the streets this week in the USA. I think they did a fantastic job pulling off the design, and they've been really great to work with.

Good luck with this collaboration as it should result in your great designs being available at a lower price point.

If the quality is there - presumably - everyone wins.

Some fresh announcements:

1) I will be set up in the Vendor Tent for the USASOC Sniper Comp at the end of March. Planning on having a whole bunch of cool new stuff on display for you guys. Knives, axes, bags, and eating utensils, as well as hopefully some new swag. If you or guys from your group are going to be there, please stop by, say hello, and check out the new gear.

2) First production run of THE SHIIT Bag should be complete and arriving here around 20 November. Will post more details on those when they show up. There was a slight two week delay in production while we were waiting for Austrialpin to deliver the Cobra buckles, but I believe we're back on track now. Also, we're about to move forward with the production patterning on the THE LITTLE SHIIT / DR Jones bag. So be on the lookout for that.

3) There is a lot of new exciting stuff in the pipeline. More details on that as we get closer to release. Hopefully end of November - early December barring any manufacturing hiccups.
